This lovely lady originally came to see me to have cap & gown photos done for some of her children. She's also a fitness enthusiast and so I asked her if she would participate in The Beauty Project so that I could try creating some fitness images for her. She agreed and this is the result. I'll be sharing some of her fitness images in another post down the road, but for now please enjoy her story and her gorgeous Beauty Project images!
How old are you? I'm 52
Are you from Calgary? If not, where are you from? I was born in Toronto, came to Alberta as a young teen, and then moved to BC as a young adult. After living in the Kootenay's for almost twenty years we moved back to Alberta and now Airdrie is home.
Are you married? Yes, happily so!
Do you have children? We have seven children, the oldest is 32 and the youngest two are 17. We also have three daughters-in-love, one son-in-love, plus six incredible grandsons...two of whom went home to be with the Lord.
What do you do for a living? I'm a homeschooling mom...but I am also an Online Fitness and Healthy Living Coach.
Have you ever had a portrait session (by yourself) before? No
Why do you want to participate in The Beauty Project? I love the heart and purpose behind The Beauty Project. Real Women, Real Beauty. I love the idea of being a part of that! As a young woman I struggled with my self-image hugely! Like most busy wives and moms, it was difficult to carve out time for me, and I think sometimes "feeling beautiful" in the day to day craziness of life is tough. The Beauty Project has a way of helping women see that there is so much beauty within every one of us that we often miss because we are too quick to see our flaws.
What does beauty mean to you? I think real beauty is found in our uniqueness and our imperfections. It's found in our strength and comlexity that we often don't see within ourselves. I've learned it's not something society can dictate. It's not some idea. It's not a size, or a style. Real beauty is being genuine, comfortable, and joyful in who you are right now and all you've been created to be.
What does being a woman mean to you? It's hard to capture what it means in a few words, but I believe it includes being uniquely created with both gentleness and strength, empowered to live confidently with great love.
What do you love about yourself? I love that I'm learning to fully embrace and find joy in new adventures! I love that I am determined and find strength even during adversity. I love learning and being close to my family and God.
Tell me your story. I love being a mom and being married to my best friend. I'm introverted and serious, yet passionate and goofy. I love to write, read, take photos, and capture life. I love getting outdoors to camp, hike, run, and generally have adventures! I love a good coffee and great conversations with friends. I love my walk with God. We have raised seven wonderful kiddos with His help.
I also love all things fitness, healthy, organic, and holistic. I survived a near fatal accident when I was 16 and came through knowing life has so much purpose, even though I was still figuring out mine. When I was 22 my oldest daughter was diagnosed at age six months of age with a rare Metabolic condition, and my father passed away from cancer when I was 25. I became determined to fully discover what it meant to live a healthy, fit life...physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally, for myself and my family. Life has been good but it wasn't always easy or perfect. In fact, it was delightful chaos at time raising seven kids!
Now I'm moving into a new season in my life and I love sharing, empowering and encouraging other women to find and have a healthy confidence in themselves, and their faithm and to know that as women we are strong, beautiful overcomers!
Oh Kimberly! It has been so wonderful getting to know you! You are an amazing woman and inspiring to me on so many levels. I'm so glad our paths have crossed, and I'm so glad you decided to participate in The Beauty Project. I know that you will be an inspiration to many other women. Thank you!
